Marriage

Marriage law in this country only allows the Rector to marry couples, one of whom, at least, lives in the parish.

The teaching of Christ does not permit the marriage in church of anyone who has been divorced from a husband or wife who is still alive.

Enquiries about marriages should be made initially with the Rector.

The Rector can reserve a date and a time for the marriage so that couples can proceed with other arrangements.

Couples then arrange to see the Rector in the year of their marriage in order to discuss the practical details of the wedding.

Marriage Preparation Days are held in the Spring. The next is on Saturday 5 April 2008. This day includes sessions on personal characteristics; models for marriage; roles within marriage; the Christian understanding of marriage; and the marriage vows.

Fees for Marriage are revised each year. In 2008 they are:

Reading of Banns £22. 00

Banns Certificate (if required) £12 .00.

Marriage Service £ 247. 00

Marriage Certificate (if required) £3. 50

In addition, the following optional extras are available

Organ and Organist £50. 00*

Choir £60. 00*

Bells £80. 00

Heating £35. 00

* These fees are doubled if a video or audio recording is made of the marriage.
